KAMBO - The Medicine of the Frog
The Kambo frog, known as Phyllomedusa bicolor, is a tree frog that lives in the Amazon rainforest. This remarkable being has much to offer both the Earth and humanity.
In its natural habitat, the frog’s body produces a protective secretion. For humans, this secretion is recognized by the body as medicine due to the powerful cocktail of bioactive peptides it contains. In combination with the water consumed beforehand, a strong physiological response is triggered in the body. During this process, Kambo is believed to help release toxins from various layers — physical, emotional, mental, and energetic.
Using Tamishi wood from the Amazon, small superficial points (“dots”) are gently applied to the skin, onto which the Kambo medicine is placed. It is a potent natural substance with profound effects.
What Is Kambo and How Does It Work?
Approximately 7% of the frog’s body weight consists of bioactive peptides. Peptides are short chains of amino acids that function as building blocks for proteins. The secretion contains a powerful combination of peptides, commonly grouped into seven families:
-
Caeruleins
-
Bradykinins
-
Tachykinins
-
Bombesins
-
Sauvagine
-
Dermorphins
-
Tryptophyllins
These include vasoactive, opioid, and adenoregulin peptides.
These compounds interact with various receptors, neurotransmitters, nerves, cells, hormonal pathways, and systems in the body. They are studied for their antimicrobial properties and their influence on immune and physiological responses.
In Amazonian traditions, Kambo is also known for its energetic cleansing properties. Indigenous tribes refer to the clearing of negative energy, trauma, or stagnation as panema. The process is said to restore movement and flow where energy has become blocked.
Benefits of Working with Kambo
Kambo is traditionally used as a deep cleansing ritual. Many people report feeling closer to their core essence after a session. As the medicine moves through the bloodstream, it creates an intense but short-lived purification process.
Kambo is often described as supporting:
-
Detoxification processes
-
Immune system stimulation
-
Hormonal balancing
-
Increased production of white and red blood cells
-
Reduced inflammation
-
Emotional release and clarity
The experience can be physically intense. Nausea, vomiting, sweating, shaking, bowel movements, crying, or yawning are common parts of the cleansing process. In the jungle, Kambo is sometimes referred to as a “jungle vaccine” due to its strengthening and purifying reputation.
From personal experience, Kambo can be a powerful purification — not only physically, but also mentally and energetically. Many people report greater unity between body and mind, increased vitality, mental clarity, reduced anxiety, and a deeper sense of alignment.
Some individuals share positive experiences in reducing addictive behaviors or dependency on substances when Kambo is used within a supportive and conscious framework. Every person and intention is different, and results vary.
Kambo is often described as helping the body return to a more natural state of balance — back to authenticity and core alignment.
Body and mind are deeply interconnected. Physical symptoms are sometimes linked to emotional or energetic imbalances. Kambo can serve as a catalyst for awareness, supporting the body’s natural self-healing capacity.
A powerful teacher. A potent medicine.
Viva Kambo.
Preparation
From the moment you feel called to participate in a ceremony (at Temple of Ascension) and your registration is complete, preparation begins.
Preparation includes following specific dietary guidelines. This is not only physical preparation but also mental and emotional alignment. Living consciously in the days leading up to the ceremony supports a deeper experience.
It is beneficial to observe your thoughts, emotions, and dreams during this time. Connect with your heart. Journaling can help process what arises. A Kambo ceremony works on many levels, and conscious preparation allows you to receive the medicine more openly.
Dietary Guidelines
These are guidelines we recommend; always listen to your body and intuition.
Most participants begin the diet approximately one week before the ceremony.
Three days before the ceremony:
-
No coffee
-
No alcohol
-
No cigarettes
-
No recreational drugs
-
Avoid meat
-
Eat light meals
On the day of the ceremony: light or no breakfast.
Sexual abstinence is recommended to conserve energy.
Eat and drink as organically, locally, and naturally as possible.
Give gratitude for the nourishment Mother Earth provides.
After the ceremony, continue to be mindful of what you consume.
What Does a Kambo Ceremony Look Like?
Each ceremony is unique.
We usually gather in the morning. We ground together, connect, share intentions, and provide information about Kambo. Together we decide where and how many points (“dots”) will be applied using Tamishi wood.
After the points are placed, approximately 1.5–2 liters of water are consumed. The Kambo medicine is then prepared and applied.
The full ceremony, including integration and a light meal afterward, lasts approximately five hours.
We warmly welcome you to Cosmic Dream and wish you a beautiful and transformative ceremony.
